Majestic forest giant, most famous of NZ native trees. Slow growing, stays in juvenile form 50 plus years. Prefers rich, moist soil. Requires a sheltered position, particularly from frosts to grow well this far south.

Similar to the common Cabbage Tree, but has purplish-bronze foliage and does not grow quite as vigorously. Tolerates a wide range of conditions but can be susceptible to frost in early years.

Particularly attractive species of Cordyline with a large head of very broad leaves. Prefers well drained, rich, moist soil. Densely packed flowers appear late spring/early summer. Susceptible to hard frosts.

One of the most beautiful of NZ native trees. Begins life as a pyramidal tree and matures into a tall, red barked giant with elegant, weeping branches. Slow-growing, needs canopy shelter in early years and wet, rich soils but will tolerate drier conditions when established.
